Migraine Headaches May Indicate Deadly Outcome
Pain is an alarm that something is wrong. The alarm may tell us severity of an underlying problem. A paper cut will really get your attention, but has little consequence on your health and longevity. Migraines are a much bigger problem, but can be “managed”. Merely the suppression of the symptoms does NOTHING for the underlying cause.
A recent study strongly suggests that patients who experience migraines with aura potentially have a much greater risk. There are higher levels of oxidative stress and inflammation, which has consequences such as heart disease and stroke.
Here are some top findings from this study:
• Women with active migraine with aura had a 225% higher risk of a hemorrhagic stroke.
• For bleeding within the cerebral cortex (intracerebral hemorrhage) the risk was slightly higher at 278%.
• For fatal strokes, the number skyrocketed at 356% higher risk.
Other studies support these findings. Migraines may actually be doing more damage to the blood vessels of the brain than every imaged. The bottom line is that we have to make the changes necessary to get rid of the migraines or suffer the long term damage.
At Active Healthcare and Physical Medicine, we use a variety of treatment approach to treat and ultimately resolve Migraine Headaches. Our success rate is not 100% but it is quite high. There is no “silver bullet” procedure. Each case, each patient is unique and needs to be assessed for individualized therapeutic treatment. To see the full study click here
